Iran Warns of ‘Crushing Response’ to Israel and U.S. Amid Escalating Tensions
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a strong warning on Saturday by threatening Israel and the United States with a “crushing response” over the attacks on Iran and its allies.
Khamenei’s remarks come with escalating tensions and worries about a larger regional conflict in the Middle East. The conflict has been made worse by Israel’s operations in Lebanon and the ongoing fighting in Gaza.
Appearing in an Iranian official media video Khamenei stated, “The enemies whether the Zionist regime or the United States of America will definitely receive a crushing response to what they are doing to Iran and the Iranian nation and to the resistance front.”
However he did not mention anything related to how or when Iran may strike back which raises concerns about the extent and timing of any possible attack.
This escalation comes after Israeli forces attacked Iranian military bases on October 26 and are said to have killed at least five individuals. According to Israeli sources, their strikes avoided nuclear and oil infrastructure in favor of targeting military facilities.
Iran said the action was revenge for Israeli efforts against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the move was purportedly in response to an Iranian ballistic missile strike earlier this month.
Although the US was aware of Israel’s plans in advance it has openly disassociated itself from any direct participation.
Earlier also Khamenei had adopted a more reserved stance by warning Iranian officials not to exaggerate or minimize Israel’s attack and advising them to carefully consider their reaction.
With the US presidential election just a few days away and regional actors already divided over the Israel-Hamas dispute, there is growing concern that the situation could turn into a more serious conflict.
