Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has urged all political parties and officials in Lebanon, to elect a new president.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Beirut, the capital and largest city of Lebanon, on Thursday. He started an official visit to Lebanon from the Syrian capital, Damascus, to meet with several Lebanese officials. 

On Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged Lebanese officials to reach an understanding on the election of a new president in Lebanon. He highlighted the importance of holding the presidential election in the country.

He reportedly said, “Iran only wants the good of Lebanon. I expect regional and international countries to support Lebanon economically and commercially.”

Upon his arrival in Beirut, the Iranian Foreign Minister told the media that Iran called on the international community to help Lebanon amid the financial and political crises. 

The Iranian diplomat is expected to meet Najib Mikati, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, and Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon.

On Friday, the Iranian minister held a meeting with Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. They discussed the latest political developments in Lebanon.

Recently, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also met with the leaders of the Hamas movement and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Beirut. Osama Hamdan, a senior representative of Hamas in Lebanon, described the meeting as positive. He said, “In the meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, the current aggressions of the Zionist regime of Israel were discussed.”

On Thursday, during a two-day visit to Syria, Iran’s foreign minister met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. During the meeting, the Iranian minister lauded the Iran-Saudi relations as mutually beneficial. 

He also invited Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Iran, on behalf of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. He called for the enhancement of Syrian-Arab relations.

The Iranian minister made headlines during his visit to Syria. He called on US forces in Syria “to return home” and leave the region. He also condemned Israeli air strikes in Syria. He said, “I confirm that the criminal practices by the Zionist entity in the region will not remain without retaliation.”

Earlier this month, the Iranian foreign minister also travelled to Saudi Arabia. He met Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah bin Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, the Iranian minister said, “Relations between Tehran and Saudi are on the right track.”
