Kuwait Announces Public Holiday for Islamic New Year

Kuwait’s Cabinet has officially recognized and announced Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of the Islamic (Hijri) New Year. All ministries, government agencies, and publicly funded bodies across the country will be closed on these dates and will return to normal work on Sunday, June 29.

The Islamic New Year occurs on 1 Muharram in the Hijri calendar. In 2025, it is anticipated to occur on June 25 or June 26 based on astronomical computations. The Islamic New Year represents the beginning of a new lunar year, and this is significant in the world of Islam.
