Kuwait Makes History as Country Works with the First Remote Robotic Prostate Surgery

Kuwait has made a momentous accomplishment in medical history by performing remote robotic prostate surgery, the first of its kind in the region. The radical prostatectomy was done utilizing state-of-the-art robotic-assisted technology, with a doctor who was 5,000 km away in France.
The surgery was conducted at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Kidney and Urology Center in the Al-Sabah Specialized Medical District. An unnamed man in his sixties, diagnosed with a cancerous tumor of the prostate, was the recipient of this life-saving procedure. The procedure was conducted remotely by Dr. Saad Al-Dosari, a Kuwaiti surgeon and expertise perfect, and head of the Surgery Department, from Strasbourg, France.
Surgery Telecast Live at International Conference
The surgery was viewed live on screen at the World Robot Surgeons Conference in historic Strasbourg, where more than 2,500 top surgeons and medical professionals witnessed this highly significant event. The Minister of Health, Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, was also in attendance and praised the skill of the surgical team and commended Kuwait for this major advancement in modern healthcare.
Dr Al-Awadhi stated, “This successful operation is an example of the talent of Kuwaiti doctors in medicine, and firmly cements the country as a strong force in the new modern frontier of surgical innovation.
Kuwait’s Robotic Surgery Journey
This surgery was not a one-off. It was Kuwait’s ninth remote robotic surgery, and all 9 were led by Dr Al-Dosari and his team. Previous surgeries on children were performed in Shanghai, China, and given that all operations so far have been successful is evidence that Kuwait is leading in high-tech healthcare.
