Morocco Struggles with Women's Inclusion, Ranks 32nd in Africa

While MOROCCO makes strides in empowering women for politics and civil rights the AWII 2025 findings point to serious economic and financial barriers women still face in the country. Morocco ranks ahead of 32nd other African nations with a gender equality score of 44.2 which shows it needs better progress toward fair treatment of genders.

The country’s political leaders improved their standings in Morocco by 27.6 percent between 2017 and 2022. Legal updates and organizational plans such as ICRAM 1 and 2, combined with removing CEDAW reservation, allowed more women to enter political life. According to Afrobarometer findings published in 2022, Moroccans want equal political opportunities for everyone, as confirmed by 62% of the survey participants.

Earnings inequality represents the biggest problem women encounter in their economic activities. The economy of Morocco includes 27.7 percent of its population and financial inclusion reaches 35.5 percent. The financial gains for women developed such a big gender difference between men and women that the number of points increased to 27. The Association for Women’s Investment in Society 2025 data shows Africa needs 73 years (until 2093) more to create full women business opportunities when officials begin making targeted improvements today.
