Netanyahu Declares Deadly Gaza Strikes Are ‘Only the Beginning’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised that military operations would intensify in Gaza and informed that the last deadly bombings were “only the beginning.” His comments followed overnight raids in which at least 404 Palestinians were killed, many of whom were children and more than 560 were injured, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

During a recent TV address, Netanyahu indicated that Israel would hit Hamas with “increasing force” and that any ceasefire talks in the future “will only be under fire.” He reiterated Israel’s goals of eliminating Hamas, releasing all the hostages and making certain Gaza does not again threaten.

The revived military operation is a result of the collapsing of a ceasefire deal that had existed since January 19th. Israel rejected a Hamas offer for prisoner release in exchange for an end to the blockade, blaming Hamas for delaying negotiations.

Netanyahu defended the strikes, insisting that Palestinian civilians should avoid Hamas controlled areas. The latest escalation has drawn international concern as diplomatic efforts for a lasting ceasefire appear increasingly fragile.
