Real Madrid crowned as 2023-24 La Liga Champions
Real Madrid were crowned La Liga champions for the 2023/24 season after Barcelona’s surprise 4-2 defeat by Girona. The defeat sealed Madrid’s triumph, and they now have an insurmountable lead at the top of the table.
Earlier in the day, Real Madrid recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Cadiz to move 14 points clear of Barcelona. Barcelona needed to win all their remaining games to have any chance of the title, but their defeat of Girona dashed those hopes and consolidated Madrid’s position as champions.
The result was Real Madrid’s 36th La Liga title, extending their lead over Barcelona, who have 27 league wins to their name.
Throughout the season, Real Madrid showed their determination to reclaim the title from Barcelona. Under Carlo Ancelotti, the team got off to a flying start, inspired by the performances of rising star Jude Bellingham. Madrid quickly established themselves as favourites, leaving Barcelona struggling.
Surprisingly, it was Girona who emerged as Madrid’s main rivals at the start of the season. Michel’s team even topped the table on several occasions. However, Girona’s form eventually waned, allowing Madrid to seize the opportunity. Madrid rose to the occasion, overcoming the pressure and regaining their place at the top of the league, securing the title with four games to spare.
One of the key factors in Madrid’s success was their impressive home form. Ancelotti’s side remained unbeaten at the iconic Bernabeu throughout the season. Their only defeat came in September, against Atlético de Madrid (3-1), in an away match.
