Souaid Calls for Hezbollah to Disarm Amid Growing Military Tensions in Lebanon
Former MP Fares Souaid shared his insights on the rising tensions in the region during an interview with a local news agency of Lebanon LBCI. He said, he believes that the Middle East is heading into a critical phase, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might use to strengthen his position in negotiations.
Souaid explained that Netanyahu’s current goal appears to be creating a stronger military footing, allowing him to negotiate from a more advantageous position. Souaid also highlighted the growing security and military pressure on Lebanon, warning that this situation might end with one side gaining the upper hand.
Expressing concern for future of Lebanon Souaid said that Hezbollah to reintegrate into Lebanon’s political framework by giving up its arms to the state, as stated in the Lebanese constitution. He suggested that if Hezbollah fails to do so, it risks losing its weapons through military force, potentially to Israel.
