Syria’s Crisis at the Center: Turkey and Iran’s Push for Dialogue

Ankara recently played host to an unexpectedly cordial meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iranian counterpart, Araqchi. The focus of the meeting is ongoing crisis in Syria. This is a conflict that has dragged the whole Middle East is critical situation of instability.

Despite standing on opposite sides of the Syrian conflict—Turkey backing opposition forces and Iran firmly supporting President Bashar al-Assad—the atmosphere in the room was strikingly warm. 

Both leaders recognized the need for dialogue, even if their views remain worlds apart. They stated, “Dialogue and cooperation are essential”.

This meeting is a reminder of the harsh situation of Middle Eastern diplomacy.
