The Rise of Green Power: Renewable Energy Progress in Jordan, Morocco and Egypt

The Middle East is experiencing a major energy revolution and most countries are at the forefront of using renewable energy. With plenty of sun and wind, nations such as Jordan, Egypt and Morocco are making every effort to diversify their energy mix and decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

Jordan Investments in Solar and Wind Energy

Jordan has emerged as a regional leader in renewable energy responding to the goal of achieving 50% of energy from renewables by 2030. In support of this commitment, the Jordanian government has introduced new initiatives like the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), which provides support for private investments in large scale solar parks and wind farms.

Egypt’s Solar Power Aspirations

Egypt has one of the largest solar installations in the world, Benban Solar Park. Through business friendly policies such as feed-in tariffs and energy sector reforms Egypt is aiming to achieve 42 percent of its electricity to come from renewables by 2035. These initiatives have positioned Egypt as a leader of renewable energy in the region.

Wind and Solar Projects in Morocco

Morocco has ambitious renewable energy objectives with plans on generating 52% of electricity from renewables by 2030. Developed Geographically, the Noor Solar Complex Project using developing technology and deploying solar power at the Tarfaya Wind Farm are definitive projects indicating the Moroccan commitment to both solar and wind energy respectively. Finally, Morocco is rapidly becoming the renewable energy leader in North Africa by permitting international investments and executions into this sector.

These countries are transforming the energy landscape of the Middle East. By investing in cleaner, renewable energy sources and setting an important precedent for sustainability.
