Kuwait’s appearance at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale is a bold remaking of this oil producing nation’s architectural identity; the monumental recurring Kuwait pavilion in the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale launched its innovative “Kaynound” project on Friday May 10.

Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar, Secretary General to the National council for culture, arts and letters (NCCAL) stressed that this exhibition is Kuwait’s contemporary cultural vision and an architectural interpretation of an artistic medium that represents the transforming of society.

Under the aegis of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the pavilion will feature pieces by young Kuwaiti creators, up to November 23. The exhibition treats architecture as a discipline for research and uses experimental drawings and installations, as well as critical research, to question issues of identity and history.

The opening ceremony of the pavilion attracted distinguished guests which included among others:

  • Mohammed bin Redha, acting Assistant Secretary-General for Antiquities and Museums.
  • Sheikh Jaber Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Consul General of Kuwait residing in Milan and Northern Italy
