Ukraine cut ties with Syria after it recognize breakaway republics
Syria–As a result of Syria, a buddy of Moscow, recognizing the independence of the two separatist republics in eastern Ukraine, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky declared the termination of diplomatic relations with Damascus on Wednesday.
In the Donbas region, the epicenter of Russia’s incursion, the separatist governments of Donetsk and Lugansk, whose independence Moscow recognized in February, have eluded Kiev’s control since 2014.
Syria angered Ukraine on Wednesday after becoming the first country outside of Russia to recognize the two secessionist republics. In a Telegram video, Zelensky stated that “relations between Ukraine and Syria will no longer exist,” adding that “even stronger sanctions pressure” would be placed on Syria. Syria’s action, according to Zelensky, is “worthless tale.”
