Egypt is welcoming the 2025 World Junior Squash Championships in Cairo while the world of squash looks ahead to the 2028 Olympic debut of the sport at the Los Angeles Games.

The tournament runs from 21 July to 1 August at the Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo. The singles competition concludes on 26 July, before starting the team events from 27 July.

As Egypt has held the boys’ championship for the first time since 1996 and the girls’ championship for the first time in 22 years, this will be a special year. There are over 230 players under the age of 19 competing in the championships, with players from nations such as India, China, the USA, France, and Brazil competing, including 13 Egyptians in the draw.

The two top players from Egypt, Mohamed Zakaria and Amina Orfi, are the players to watch, and Orfi will be looking to defend her title. Orfi is already a three-time world junior winner and ranked No. 5 in the women’s senior world rankings. Zakaria made headlines after he became the youngest men’s junior champion last year. Other challengers include Anahat Singh from India, Lauren Baltayan from France, and Jooyoung Na from Korea. The president of the Egyptian Squash Federation, Amina El-Trabelsi, stated the importance of the championships and that it shows the dedication of Egypt to discovering and supporting young talent for excellence on the global stage. This championship is also a significant player in the race for Olympic qualification. There will only be 16 players per gender competing in LA28. Strong results at this championship can be important for ranking and qualification purposes.
