Faith, Sacrifice & Celebration: When & How the Eid al-Adha is celebrated in Egypt this 2025?

Eid al-Adha which is also known as ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ is an annual Islamic festival that is celebrated to honor the Prophet Ibrahim who sacrificed his son due to his unparalleled devotion to God. On this wonderful and auspicious day people will be in their traditional attire and will begin their day with heartfelt prayers held at mosques and at open spaces. Followed by the ritual named, ‘Qurbani’ that is sacrificing a sheep, goat or cow.
Then the meat will be distributed among family, friends, and for the underprivileged people as a donation. In the Egyptians households, they will make their traditional dishes like fatta, and kahk & as a symbol of kindness and compassion it will be given to charities.
When will the ‘Eid al-Adha’ celebrated?
According to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, Eid al-Adha 2025 is expected to fall on 28 May 2025, Dhu al-Hijjah 9, 1446 AH, corresponding to June 5, 2025. Also, the official date of Arafat will be announced after sighting the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent moon.
