The authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran have arrested 28 Daesh members over the Iran bomb plot, which coincided with the anniversary of last year’s protests. 

According to the country’s intelligence ministry, Daesh members were responsible for plotting to target Tehran, the capital of Iran. The Iranian authorities neutralized 30 bombs meant to target Tehran.

What you should know about Iran bomb plot?

Around 28 people linked to the Islamic State group (IS) or Daesh wanted to attack Tehran with 30 bombs during the first year anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death. The bombs were meant to go off simultaneously in the Iranian capital.

The Iranian authorities neutralized the bomb and arrested those 28 people. Iran’s intelligence ministry claimed that the arrested people were affiliated to the professional crime group of Daesh.

The Iranian authorities conducted simultaneous operations to arrest terrorists. They were arrested from Tehran, Alborz and West Azerbaijan provinces. During the operation, two security personnel were also injured. The intelligence ministry also seized bombs, firearms, suicide vests and communications devices from these places.

What did Iran’s intelligence ministry say?

Iran’s intelligence ministry said in a statement that the Iranian authorities had neutralized a plot to “carry out 30 simultaneous terrorist explosions in densely populated centers of Tehran to undermine security and incite riots and protests on the anniversary of last year’s riots.”

Iran’s intelligence ministry also claimed that some Daesh members were also affiliated with Takfiri groups (jihadists) in Syria, Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Kurdistan region of Iraq. 

The Daesh group has repeatedly conducted several attacks in Iran. The 2017 Tehran attacks were also conducted by the Daesh group. Five Daesh terrorists carried out the attack against the Iranian Parliament building and the Mausoleum of Ruhollah Khomeini in a simultaneous operation in 2017. 

Last year in October, the terrorist group also claimed responsibility for an attack on a Shia shrine in the city of Shiraz in Iran.
