Iraq, World Bank Elevate Green Growth Initiatives

Iraq’s Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, had a meeting with World Bank representative Emanuel Salinas Munoz and other representatives, where they discussed economic strategies for development and sustainability. The meeting focused mainly on infrastructure, human development, and economic development supported by the financial and technical capacity offered by the World Bank.
Both participants bolstered the opportunity for networking as both private sector growth and investment are critical to Iraq’s future economic viability. Munoz reiterated the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Iraq with the capacity to meet Iraq’s development goals while addressing the complex issues it faces at this time.
Sami met with a delegation led by the World Bank Region Director, Maskarine Bahrini, where she expressed the urgent need for Iraq to secure resources to address climate change adaptation and promote environmental sustainability.
The main discussion points in all the meetings were financial reforms, responsible resource management, and integrating green economy policies into the broader economy of Iraq. Sami demonstrated her ministry’s continued commitment to sustainability through financial planning and reform.
Overall, these meetings show that the government of Iraq wants to combine economic development with environmental responsibility and work with international agencies.
