Lebanon Receives $250 Million World Bank Loan to Deal with Power Crisis

World Bank has approved the sanction loan of two hundred and fifty dollars from Lebanon to address their present electricity dilemma. The latest update is that even after the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, the situation has worsened. The finance ministry of Lebanon has issued the above message on Thursday.

Lebanon has always been a country under trouble long before this war. There’s not enough imported fuel, and it even has an outdated and exhausted electricity system. Electricity outages are part of daily life.

The World Bank estimated that following the fighting, Lebanon would require around $11 billion to rebuild and recover itself. The war left a huge gaping hole in the already fragile structures of southern Lebanon.

The battle between the United States-backed Hezbollah group and Israel has mostly come to a stop in November 2023 after a shaky ceasefire deal. However still now, both sides are blaming each other for breaking this agreement.

Recently, Lebanon announced that the World Bank has given an early approval for increasing this loan amount to $400 million from $250 million. This additional assistance is expected to fast-track recovery and enhance power supply across the country.
