Morocco Faces Backlash Over Alleged Mass Culling of Stray Dogs Ahead of 2030 FIFA World Cup

The Moroccan government is under pressure for having allegedly planned to kill about 3 million stray dogs towards preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Vulnerable tourist destinations to transform the areas to make them less cruel to visitors have been met with heaps of criticisms from animal groups world over via a campaign “Make a rookie mistake destinations”.

The International Animal Coalition has come out forcefully against the above actions and has urged FIFA to act to stop the mass culling program. The organisation also has criticized such measures as inhuman and harmful for Morocco’s image in the world. The country which is among the host of the great event alongside Spain and Portugal is now coming under increasing pressure to find better ways of dealing with stray dogs in the country.

Animal rights activists argue that there are more ethical controls out there available including sterilization and animal adoption for cases like that. The scandal has now followed Morocco into the World Cup to give questions concerning the utilization of the country’s modernization for the welfare of animals in sporting activities.
