Morocco to Face Benin in Friendly Rematch After 2019 AFCON Shock
Morocco schedules a friendly match against Benin in June to take place at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. In 2019 Benin defeated Morocco and sent them home from the Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 in Egypt.
The Moroccan team outplayed their opponents but missed several chances to score during that game. Morocco scored through Youssef En-Nesyri but Benin hit their own goal first giving Nayef Aguerd the final touch for an equal score. Near the game’s end Morocco gained opportunity to win when they received a penalty kick. Hakim Ziyech failed to score his penalty kick which turned the match into penalties for decision. Morocco lost their chance at victory when they missed both penalty kicks and Benin took four successful shots. After their loss Moroccan supporters wanted Boussoufa to take the decisive penalty kick and ended up disappointed.
Since the games began Morocco achieved victory five times while Benin only earned one win. Benin secured the biggest moment in its history by winning the showdown in Egypt. Morocco will utilize their match against Benin to confirm their performance plans and player selection for 2025 when they host the AFCON. The coaching team wants to examine their important players and perfect their game plans before the upcoming continental tournament.
Before facing Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria’s national teams and any attractive European team Morocco requires another friendly match. For AFCON 2025 the Atlas Lions develop their team to deliver their finest showing in stadium competition at home.
