Sudan Rejects US Proposal to Resettle Palestinians Under Trump’s Gaza Plan

In Sudan, the proposal by the US to resettle displaced Palestinians from Gaza under Donald Trump’s controversial plan of transforming the region into a luxurious tourism and business hub was firmly rejected. According to a report, US and Israeli officials had approached Sudan, Somalia and Somaliland with resettlement offers but the Sudanese government outright dismissed the proposal.

Talks supposedly started before Trump took the oath of office with Washington offering military and construction assistance if cooperation could be guaranteed, stated two Sudanese government officials. However, the already embattled military-led administration refused it in an instant due to the wicked civil war and humanitarian crisis.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the de facto leader of Sudan reiterated the position of his country at a recent summit stating Sudan would not support any effort to displace Palestinians from their homeland.

Somalia and Somaliland were reportedly reached out to but both have denied doing so. Somalia’s foreign minister reaffirms opposition to any plan that undermines Palestinian sovereignty.

In spite of the rising international outcry and the legal implications concerning forced resettlement, the Trump administration is undeterred in implementing the plan in itself. The plan has received an outright negative desire from the Palestinian leadership, Egypt and Jordan, besides which other Arab-led reconstruction plans are gaining increased prominence and attention.
