Sudan’s RSF and Allies Establish Parallel Government Over Army Opposition

Paramilitary RSF and its partners formed their administration by signing a charter as sources confirmed on Sunday. The closing ceremony of the signing took place in Nairobi Kenya after facing numerous schedule pushbacks. Reporters from AFP mention that RSF and its allies endorse this document to build a stable and united government for the areas they control.

The document received support from an Abdulaziz al-Hilu-led group that rules parts of southern Kordofan and Blue Nile’s southern regions. RSF deputy leader Abdel Rahim Daglo accepted the document although his brother and boss stayed away from this event.

According to AFP and Al-Arabiya English news sources, the document describes plans for a new state that is secular, democratic, and decentralized and based on the values of freedom, equality, and justice. It recommends creating one army made up of soldiers that represent Sudan’s many cultural backgrounds. The new leadership wants to bring peace to the region while helping all nations help people and merging fighting units into the army.

The change in government came from the breakdown inside Taqadum’s basic civilian alliance. The Sudan Founding Alliance promotes the new government through its alliance with the Rapid Support Forces while the Civilian Democratic Alliance for Revolution Powers led by former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok opposes this move.

As the leader of Sudan’s army Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his team condemned the initiative since they saw it as a threat to their country’s unity. The United Nations and Arab League share these worries because they think the new administration will increase Sudan’s emergency.

The Broader Sudanese Crisis

On April 2023 active fighting started between the RSF Military Forces and Sudanese Armed Forces after their inter-national tensions hit a critical point. The conflict created 12 million displaced people while the United Nations calls it a global hunger and displacement crisis. Between the army and RSF control in Sudan, opposing regions of the nation remain disconnected.
