Thessaly Region is extending its international trade network creating a focus on the promotion of local products with high quality as regards nutritional and pharmaceutical value. In a bid to improve global trade relations, Thessaly is strengthening its relations with Morocco to increase exports and offer new economic prospects for local manufacturers.
Thessaly Governor Dimitris Kouretas has recently met with Mohammed Sbihi, Morocco’s Ambassador to Greece to talk about the framework of such rich collaboration. During the meeting, both parties also looked into ways to enhance trade and investment integration between the two regions.
“This meeting is the start of a partnership, which could bring benefits of great importance to local producers,” the regional authority said. The ambassador indicated a strong interest in importing products of Thessaly, in particular feta cheese, honey, spices, olive oil, and aromatic plants from Elassona and the Municipality of Almyros.
Strengthening Agri-Food Cooperation
Major emphasis of the cooperation will be placed on the agri-food sector. Considering that Morocco is presently facing the hardship of severe drought, the partnership may help offer agriculture support and trade diversification. Ambassador Sbihi pointed out the benefits for Morocco of Thessaly’s excellent agricultural products.
To showcase the importance of Thessaly’s aromatic herbs Governor Kouretas organized an informative presentation on their health benefits and conductivity which sparked the ambassador’s interest.
In the future, according to Kouretas, an upcoming business mission to Morocco will be organized to link Thessalian producers to key Moroccan players. The mission aims to facilitate direct trade, enhance economic ties, and promote globally the products of Thessaly.“This initiative is also an essential effort for the further internationalization of our localized producers, and for the improvement of the economic picture of Thessaly,” the regional authority concluded.
