U.S.-Ukraine Minerals Agreement: Zelensky & Trump Set to Sign Key Deal

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet at the White House to sign a minerals deal granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth metals.

This meeting comes just a week after Trump called Zelensky a “dictator” and blamed Ukraine for the ongoing war with Russia. However, Trump’s tone has since softened following visits from French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Key Points of the Deal between Ukraine and the U.S:

AspectDetails
PurposeThe U.S. gains access to Ukraine’s rare minerals, including oil, gas, and rare earth metals.

Despite ongoing negotiations, few details about the agreement have been made public. Meanwhile, Trump has been in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aiming to broker a peace deal for Ukraine without Kyiv’s direct involvement. U.S. and Russian officials met in Istanbul on Thursday, signaling further diplomatic moves.

While Britain and France have offered peacekeeping support, they insist the U.S. must provide intelligence and airpower. Trump, however, remains non-committal, stating, “It’ll either be fairly soon or it won’t be at all.”

More details are expected after Friday’s White House meeting.
