World Celebrates Middle Eastern Design Genius On Red Carpet
Arab designs are ruling the roost in the international fashion scene and the Venice red carpet was a testament to this. Oozing with femininity and poise, the designing is minimalistic yet, with a sense of traditionality to it.
Form fitted dressing with long capes are the ‘in’ thing and this was evidently seen as Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana walked the carpet all dressed in an off-white form-fitting dress with a long cape by Doha-based label Layla Atelie.
The 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, had Fontana for example, walking in wearing something which was in celebration of Adam Driver’s “White Noise”. The Middle Eastern inspirations are not limited to the film circuit, but one can see a lot of jewelry inspirations on occasions here and there as well.
Let’s take Lebanese jeweller Mouawad for example who is now known for crafting ornaments of beauty pageants. His art was well known in the royalty circuit since 1908. The fourth generation is now known for its ‘luxe’ collections in diamond. In 2019, Mouawad became the official jeweller for Miss Universe, crafting a one-of-a-kind crown for the winner of the title. South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi won that year.
Known as the Power of Unity crown, symbolizing ‘empowerment’ features interwoven petals, leaves and vines all crafted in 18-karat gold and set with white diamonds, the highlight of the Power of Unity crown is a 62.83 carat canary diamond placed in the centre. Two other pearls, cut from the same stone as the centre diamond, are placed on either side of the crown. Or how Jennifer Lopez has been spotted wearing Lebanese jewellery, celebrating the creative art of the country. Her 27-carat pear shaped diamond earrings are worth $ 2 million and announce her marriage for the second time with Ben Affleck.
