Zambia Set to Face Morocco in WAFCON 2025 Tournament Opener

There is an opening clash to be had at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations between the Zambian women’s footballers and Tournament host Morocco in what promises to be a tough Group A tie

The bronze medalists from the last tournament will commence their WAFCON journey on the 5th of July at Rabat’s new Olympic Stadium. The occasion will mark the very first contest for the Zambian side and will be a vital one, especially because the Moroccans shall be enjoying the home advantage throughout the competition.

Following the first game, the second match of the campaign for Zambia will be against Senegal at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia on July 9th. Four days later, the team will be playing against the Democratic Republic of Congo for their last group stage game, and the venue will again be El Bachir.

The working conditions for this team in friendly matches in South Africa are really good within the Three-Nation Friendly Tournament. The two supposed friendly engagements against Botswana and the hosts offer to hone strategies for the Copper Queens under the tutelage of Coach Nora Häuptle.

The tournament was rightfully theirs by virtue of finishing third in 2022, thereby securing a qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand.
