Kuwait approves measures to ensure transparent elections
Kuwait–Kuwait’s cabinet approved measures to ensure transparency in Kuwait’s upcoming parliamentary elections. Voters can now use their national IDs to cast their ballot in elections.
The new measures were adopted during a cabinet meeting at Seif Palace on Wednesday. The cabinet announced two law decrees of necessity concerning the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Integrity Enhancement, Jamal Al-Jallawi, reportedly said that the cabinet approved adding new precincts to four voting constituencies on the basis of geographic proximity. He further said, “The new measures aim to ensure transparent and legal elections in the country”
The law decrees will be forwarded to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for approval, according to the state news agency.

Earlier this month, Kuwait had dissolved the parliament, with the Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah calling for early elections. The crown prince also moved to resolve a standoff between the government and elected parliament.
The crown prince also approved a cabinet headed by a new prime minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Sabah. The new prime minister will lead the 12-member Cabinet until the dissolution of parliament ahead of early elections. This is Kuwait’s fifth government in the last two years.
In 2020, Sheikh Ahmad was appointed deputy head of the National Guard. He began his career by joining the police force. Later on, he entered the interior ministry. He was named interior minister, and a deputy prime minister, in March this year. Political stability in Kuwait has always depended on cooperation between the government and parliament. However, in recent years, the political deadlock has affected the country. The deadlock between government and parliament in Kuwait has often led to cabinet reshuffles and dissolutions of the legislature in recent years. The deadlock has also hampered investment and affected the economy of the country
