The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has complained about the United Nations colors promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals. The Turkish President has also said that he would like to discuss UN colors with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Erdoğan complains about UN colors
On Thursday, Erdoğan said that he was uncomfortable with the use of colors at the United Nations, describing it as “LGBT colors.” However, the UN was decorated this week with colors promoting Sustainable Development Goals.

Erdoğan reportedly said, “One of the issues that bothers me the most is that when entering the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), you see the LGBT colors on steps and other places.” The Turkish President further questioned, “How many LGBT are there in the world right now?”
Erdoğan is confused between LGBTQ colors and UN colors
United Nations diplomats suggested that the Turkish President was confused between the 17 different colors associated with the Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals and the rainbow Pride colors representing LGBTQ rights.
The secretary-general of the United Nations said that there were no rainbow Pride colors at U.N. headquarters.
It is important to note that there are 17 SDG icons at the SDG color wheel, while there are 7 rainbow colors associated with LGBTQ rights. Red, green, blue, indigo, orange, yellow, and violet colors are used in both SDG color wheel and the Pride colors associated with LGBTQ freedoms.
Homosexuality is not a crime in the Republic of Turkey, but the Turkish President has always been against the LGBTQ rights. However, UN’s Guterres has always been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ freedoms across the world.
