Ceer and KAUST Collaborate for Smart Mobility
Saudi Arabia’s first electric vehicle brand “Ceer” is working with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) for achieving smart mobility. They will be working on connectivity and autonomous driving.
Ceer and KUAST will develop an automotive vertical in support of Saudi-based, technology-focused SMEs and Saudi Arabia’s automotive manufacturing industry. Together, they will promote economic diversification and create jobs.
Ceer and KAUST Back R&D
Dr Tony Chan, KAUST President, said they strive to contribute to the Saudi Vision 2030 and the kingdom’s research and development, and innovation priorities. “We want to transform groundbreaking research in smart mobility into concepts that can be used by the electric vehicle industry and in Ceer’s own EVs.”
Chan said through the collaboration with Ceer, they will co-develop new ideas and applications that will help reduce emissions, make the vehicles safer and smarter, and ultimately help diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy.
James DeLuca, Ceer CEO, is looking forward to co-create next-gen technologies for their Made-in-Saudi electric vehicles. “We will accelerate research in the automotive industry to create innovations here in the Kingdom while creating more high-value jobs for young nationals to further diversify the Saudi economy.”

Saudi Wants to Boost EV Mobility
With 2.7 million vehicles on Saudi Arabia’s highways, the kingdom wants to increase EV share. It is working towards achieving a 30 percent rise for EVs by 2030 in Riyadh. In support of a green economy and EVs, the PIF is also building a factory for electric vehicle batteries. It will have an annual production capacity of 15 gigawatt hours by 2028.
The factory will supply batteries for Lucid and other EV manufacturers in the country. Moreover, Saudi Arabia’s National Industrial Development Center (NIDC) wants to create a production capacity of 28 gigawatt-hours, including renewable energy storage.
Ceer boosted Saudi Arabia in the global automotive sector by launching the first Made in Saudi electric car. The company is working with the kingdom’s Saudi Green Initiative and carbon neutrality by 2060. Furthermore, Ceer has partnered with BMW and Foxconn to produce a range of EVs to bolster Saudi Arabia with new technological expertise and manufacturing capability.
This will boost the country’s economy and industrial base.
