‘Silence the Arms,’ Pope Francis Pleads for Peace Across the Globe in Christmas Address
Pope Francis addressed today in front of the world on the occasion of Christmas! Pope called for peace around the world. He said, “arms be silenced” in conflict zones such as Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan.
Speaking in his traditional “Urbi et Orbi” message the Pope highlighted the ongoing suffering caused by violence and war, especially in Gaza, where he described the humanitarian crisis as “extremely grave.”
Pope Francis appealed for negotiations to bring peace in Ukraine which was heavily attacked by Russian missiles and drones on Christmas morning. “May the sound of arms be silenced in war-torn Ukraine,” he said. He said to the world to be bold in opening doors for dialogue and long-lasting peace.
He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and release of Israeli hostages. “I think of the Christian communities in Israel and Palestine, particularly in Gaza,” he said.
Pope Francis extended his plea for peace to the Middle East as a whole including Sudan, where a brutal civil war has ravaged the country for 20 months.
In his message Pope Francis prayed that the “Son of the Most High” would sustain the work of the international community in these troubled regions and bring peace to the suffering people.
