Turkiye Launches Its First AI Language Model T3AI

Turkey has officially entered the artificial intelligence race with the first large language model, T3AI, launched late last week.The beta version debuted on the TEKNOFEST social platform at 5PM on Friday with users greeted by T3AI’s first message: “Hello world I am T3AI.”T3AI is the result of collaborative efforts by the Turkish Technology Team Foundation, and defense contractor Baykar, with support from leading national organizations such as the Turkish Ministry of Education, TRT, Anadolu Agency, SETA, Turkish Academy of Sciences, and Microsoft.
AI Built for Turkey, by Turkey
T3AI aims to process Turkish text more naturally, and to better understand the languages of Turkic countries.Although T3AI is trained in Turkish, it has the capability to reply in additional languages.This makes T3AI usable for users outside of the country.While T3AI is a large language model, its open-source nature and strong ethical focus makes it stand apart from OpenAI and Google’s offerings.The project attracted the participation of 1,792 volunteers from 67 provinces and indicates how the interest and “public will” for participation in AI projects is continuing to grow in Turkey.

The T3 Foundation’s chairman Selçuk Bayraktar noted the model as a source of pride and a means for improving AI applications throughout Turkic-speaking regions.Equipped with T3AI, Türkiye is now joining a growing number of nations in creating their own AI models to facilitate digital independence, language preferences and ethical measures.
