Turkmenistan Eager to Deepen Defense Ties with Turkiye
Strengthening of strategic and long-term relations with Turkiye is one of the main aspects of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy, says Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan.
He held talks with heads of Turkish defense firms Baykar and BMC on Tuesday in a bid to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense. They discussed a wide range of areas of mutual interest, particularly opportunities for cooperation in defense.
Turkmenistan is at bolstering its defense industry. In September, Ashgabat showcased its newly acquired Bayraktar TB2 UAVs, from Turkiye, during a military parade marking the country’s 32nd anniversary of independence.
Turkmenistan and Turkiye Relations
Reports say Turkmenistan and Turkiye are connected by friendly fraternal ties, which is a solid basis for further expansion of interstate dialogue. Moreover, Turkiye is the first country to have recognized Turkmenistan’s independence in 1991, following the dissolution of the USSR.
The two countries are bound by a common history, language, religion and culture. And both enjoy balanced special relations based on mutual respect, cooperation and the principle of “One Nation, Two States”. According to the Republic of Turkiye, Turkmenistan has become the leading in the Central Asia for Turkish contracting companies, accomplishing more than 1,400 projects worth $500 billion.
Cooperation between Turkmenistan and Turkiye is successfully developing and strengthening, both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international organizations. As such, Ashghabt is keen at the prospects for increasing cooperation, and further development of Turkmen-Turkish friendly and fraternal relations.
