Iraq to Start Baghdad Metro Project in 2025

iraq to start baghdad metro project in 2025

First phase of Baghdad Metro should be ready to commence before the closing of 2025 for execution in major public transport works of the capital city. The Prime Minister’s adviser, Mohammed Al-Najjar, confirmed that the project would be developed in various phases over a couple of years.

The $18 billion Baghdad Metro would run seven metrolines for about 148 kilometers with 64 stations. There would be underground, surface, and elevated types of metro tracks to cover almost all areas in Baghdad and perhaps the neighboring areas.

A Metro path has been designed. Currently, the focus is on finalizing the design for trains, tracks, and stations. International companies involved include France’s Systra and SNCV; Spain’s Alstom, Talgo, and Sener; Turkish construction companies; and Germany’s Deutsche Bank.

There is an excruciating traffic scenario in Baghdad as thousands of people use taxis and buses for their commute. It is anticipated that the city would benefit from the metro as a congestion buster and a high-speed, modern means of transportation for almost eight million people.
