The attack came in response to last week’s attack by a Palestinian in Israel’s city of Tel Aviv, which killed three people. Subsequently, Israeli troops carried out a wave of arrests and military operations across the occupied West Bank.

Last year, repetitive violence against Palestinian worshipers at the al-Aqsa Mosque led to an 11-day war between Palestine and the Israeli forces. At least 260 Palestinians, including 66 children, were killed because of the unrest. The Mosque has been a major point of Israeli-Palestinian violence for decades. Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 war. Palestinians want the eastern part of the city to be the capital of a future state.
