Iran: Shipping Route Agreement With Oman in Final Stages – What Will Happen Next?

Iran states that the negotiations with Oman regarding the new shipping route framework for the Strait of Hormuz have been completed at the final stage. Nevertheless, Tehran stated that the agreement about the maritime routes would not automatically signify the opening of the strategically important water passage.
Iran Oman Shipping Route, Geographical coordinates and maps of commercial shipping routes have been agreed upon by the experts of both Iran and Oman. Yet, political and security disagreements, especially with the United States, have not been solved.
This news might be regarded as an important move towards the restoration of maritime traffic within one of the most strategically significant energy corridors, but there are still a few obstacles to overcome.
What Is Iran and Oman’s Shipping Agreement?
The agreement being developed deals mainly with the technical aspects of managing ship passages via the Strait of Hormuz.

The next step is going to be a solution of political and security conditions.
Iran and Oman have been negotiating in a diplomatic manner, with Muscat being a key player in discussing regional tensions.
The final agreement should specify the issue of coordination of vessels and their monitoring.
The two parties would then have to figure out whether the political climate is right for commercial vessels to start moving again through the strait.
Why is America Monitoring this Pact?
There is no doubt that Washington is highly interested in whatever deal has been made with respect to the Strait of Hormuz.
On one hand, it is strategically essential for the global energy market, and on the other, the US Navy has long been operating in the region of the Persian Gulf to guarantee navigation safety.
However, Iran has been against the excessive presence of foreign military forces there.
Thus, it is very difficult to reconcile these interests.
Any arrangement under which Iran controls commercial navigation would hardly be acceptable for America and other Western nations.
