Aoun: I am not obligated to sign alone and everyone bears his responsibility
Lebanon–The Supreme Defense Council held a meeting at Baabda Palace, in the presence of President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. During the meeting, President Aoun said: ‘The boycott of the cabinet sessions is an act of the will of the members present in it, and this is not acceptable, and if there is an objection to a specific issue that can be addressed through the institutions.’
He added: ‘The Council of Ministers must convene, and I am not obligated to sign any resolution alone, and no signature can shorten the Council of Ministers under a government with full constitutional descriptions.’ He continued: ‘Any formations or promotions that take place in the security forces must be based on assets, and to follow up on the work of some NGO’s after information about external funding for them to carry out political activities in the elections.’
Prime Minister Najib Mikati added during the meeting: ‘There is a fear that the cabinet’s call will lead to a rift that must be avoided, and we are all affected by its failure to convene, and we hope that we will soon be able to call for a meeting to address urgent issues.’
He said, ‘I am keen, like the President of the Republic, for the convening of the Council of Ministers. It has been written that whoever assumes responsibility in this country should work to bring positions and viewpoints closer, and not increase the rift.’
