Egypt Steps In to Host U20 AFCON After Ivory Coast's Sudden Withdrawal

Sources appointed Egypt as host of the U20 AFCON tournament when Cote d’Ivoire dropped out a few weeks before the event was due to start. The Confederation of African Football appointed Cairo to host the competition following the rapid decision to relocate the tournament.

An official letter from the Ivorian Football Federation President Yacine Idriss Diallo showed why his organization dropped out of hosting the tournament. Although the exact causes for leaving remain unknown the federation wanted to keep relations professional through their gratitude.

The Football Association of Egypt holds deep historical importance in this new hosting duty. The Pharaohs won their U20 AFCON titles while hosting the competition in 1991 and 2003, which has given them both tournament expertise and reason to do well in future events.

All teams have to take part in match rankings at the tournament start. Four teams compete to gain points at B Stadium. Home support will strengthen the Egyptian team and help them perform well, according to their fans.

Even though normal tournament preparation would be troubled by this last-minute change CAF devised a fully planned host-nation solution by selecting Egypt as the replacement. The football confederation reacted fast to demonstrate their commitment in keeping the tournament running despite unforeseen problems.
