Sweden and Finland Join NATO With New Strategic Alliance In Place
Swedan–Sweden and Finland have been invited under the NATO banner despite much resistance from Russia. The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has brought them under the military alliance.
Through a formal statement to the media, NATO explained how the new allegiance is only going to help Finland and Sweden feel safer and make “NATO stronger, and the Euro-Atlantic area more secure. The security of Finland and Sweden is of direct importance to the Alliance, including during the accession process.”
Surprisingly, Turkey could be seen standing behind the official picture that was taken while the country representatives signed the agreement. It is a known fact that Russia has been acting like a spoilt child because they didn’t get a seat at the NATO table. That has been stated as one big reason for Putin to have started war against Ukraine.

But what has resulted from the war is Finland and Sweden decided to firm up their protection plans against a possible onslaught from Russia. Ukraine has already requested for a seat at the NATO table.
Earlier on, Turkey had shown resistance to the membership because it felt both countries had harboured “terrorist organisations” in the past. Turkey has long accused Nordic countries, especially Sweden which has a strong Turkish immigrant community, of harbouring extremist Kurdish groups as well as supporters of Fethullah Gulen, a US-based preacher wanted over a failed 2016 coup.
With this new alliance, there is also a new strategic concept been put in place, which will guide the ‘security environment facing the Alliance, reaffirms NATO’s values, and spells out its key purpose and the greatest responsibility of ensuring our collective defence based on a 360-degree approach,’ said a formal statement after signing in the two countries.
