EXCLUSIVE: Tunisia registers a new record of vaccinations in 24 hours

The Tunisia General Director at the Health Ministry and coordinator of intensive vaccination operations, Faisal bin Saleh, said that people who received the first dose of Moderna vaccine during yesterday’s second vaccination open-day against Coronavirus would receive the second dose on September 12.
Faisal Bensalah stressed that 594,141 people aged 18-39 were vaccinated yesterday, marking a new record for the number vaccinated in a single day. The Tunis Ministry of Health acknowledged that this is “a good result,” despite many young people not responding to the invitation to receive their dose during the open day. He pointed out that the Ministry sent brief dispatches to about 1.15 million people interested in vaccination via the Evax platform on this day.
Bensalah indicated that the vaccination rate at the national level for this category as mentioned above is equal to 50.12 percent, specifying in this regard that the turnout on regular days for vaccination centers is estimated at 60 percent. In this regard, the Health Ministry is preparing a survey on the citizen’s position on the vaccination campaign and the reasons for the missed appointment. Which results will be published in the coming weeks.
Commenting on the 2nd National Immunization Day, Health Director Faisal Ben Salah appreciated the great work done by the volunteers, over 10,000 according to the Ministry’s estimates. Recalling that yesterday the vaccination day targeted people aged 18 and 39, the official said that the authorities aim to immunize students and teachers against the Covid-19 in the prevision of the start of the school and university year and the professionals.
To win the fight against COVID-19, vaccination in Tunisia will also be available in pharmacies today. Naoufel Amira, president of the union of owners of private pharmacies, announced today the start of vaccination in private pharmacies. According to him, immunization will affect people aged 40 and over. He also added that the registration operation for people wishing to be vaccinated in pharmacies on the Evax platform had started on August 11, 2021. Furthermore, the Tunisian Ministry of Health had signed on August 3, 2021, an agreement with the Order of Doctors, the Order of Dentists, and some professional unions to vaccinate citizens in doctors ‘and dentists’ offices, in private sector pharmacies, and laboratories.
