Maysaa Sabrine’s Appointment Marks Progress for Women in Syrian Government

The new administration of Syria has appointed Maysaa Sabrine as the governor of the Central Bank of Syria. After this appointment, she became the first woman to hold this role in the history of a bank in Syria.

Before this appointment Sabrine held several important positions at the Central Bank, including First Deputy Governor and Supervising Director. She led the Office Supervision Department. As of the year 2018, Sabrine has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Damascus Securities Exchange. She was representing the Central Bank.

Sabrine holds a master’s degree in accounting and has an extensive background in banking and finance. Her appointment is seen as a significant step toward promoting the inclusion of women in Syria’s government.

After Al-Dibas, Maysaa Sabrine is the second woman face in the new Syrian administration:

Sabrine is not the first woman in the new Syrian administration. Previously they have appointed Aisha al-Dibas as head of the Office of Women’s Affairs. Al-Dibas is the first woman to hold an official role in the new Syrian administration.
