Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said, “We could be entering the worst part of the pandemic.” He also said that Covid-19 will soon be in every country in the world. Gates also warned against the Omicron variant.

In a series of tweets, Bill Gates said that he cancelled most of his holiday plans because of Covid-19. He also said that his friends are increasingly being infected with the Covid-19 virus. He wrote on Twitter, “Just when it seemed like life would return to normal, we could be entering the worst part of the pandemic. Omicron will hit home for all of us. Close friends of mine now have it, and I’ve cancelled most of my holiday plans.”

Bill Gates on Omicron

Bill Gates said even if Omicron is only half as severe as delta, but it can affect people severely. He said Omicron can be the worst surge people can see so far because it’s so infectious. Consequently, he advised people to take booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves against Omicron.

Bill Gates also told people to wear masks, avoid big indoor gatherings, and get vaccinated as soon as possible. His warnings came at a time when the United States is witnessing a surge in the Omicron variant. Recently, US President Joe Biden announced plans to provide 500 million free at-home rapid tests for citizens to fight against the Omicron variant. He also requested citizens to get vaccinated, avoid unnecessary travel and gatherings.

Omicron variant threat

The Omicron covid variant is much deadlier than other variants of the Covid-19 virus. Reportedly, Omicron is also spreading faster than the Delta variant. The Omicron variant was reported in South Africa on November 25. Later on, the World Health Organisation (WHO) designated the Omicron variant as a ‘variant of concern’ on November 26.
