Saudi ministers offer condolences to Indian PM Modi after the death of his mother

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have offered condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the death of his mother on Friday.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), they offered their condolences to PM Modi on Saturday. Other leaders from the world also offered condolences to PM Modi. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov, and German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann also offered condolences over the passing away of PM Modi’s mother.

Heeraben Modi, the mother of Narendra Modi, had been in hospital since Wednesday. She died around 3:30 am at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad on Friday. She was 100 years old.

Reportedly, PM Modi and his brothers performed the last rites of Heeraben Modi on Friday. The funeral ceremony took place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Cabinet Ministers of Gujarat were also present for Hiraba Modi’s last rites. PM Modi also paid tribute to his mother at her Raysan residence.

PM Modi wrote on Twitter, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”

On Friday, PM Modi attended the development projects in West Bengal virtually. He apologised to everyone for not visiting West Bengal. He was scheduled to visit West Bengal physically. However, he was unable to visit West Bengal due to his mother’s death. He reportedly said, “Today, I was supposed to come among you but I could not come for some personal reasons for which I apologise to you and West Bengal.”
