What does Ayman al-Zawahiri’s killing mean to the world?
Afghanistan– Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri was killed in a US drone strike in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Sunday. Many nations welcomed United States president Joe Biden’s announcement on the killing of the terrorist. What does Ayman al-Zawahiri’s killing mean to the world? It proves that the ‘war on terror’ was never over. We still have a long way to go in completely ending terrorism from the world.
The counter-terrorism operation was carried out by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), a civilian foreign intelligence service of the federal government of the US. Joe Biden hailed the CIA and said, “Now justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more.”
Al-Zawahiri and Osama Bin Laden plotted the 9/11 attacks together. Al-Zawahiri also committed several crimes against humanity. Saudi Arabia accused him of killing thousands of innocent people of different nationalities and religions. He was also the mastermind of the suicide bombing of the USS Cole naval destroyer in Aden in 2000. However, he was killed after so many years.

What does “justice” mean in this context? We need to focus more on ways to eradicate terrorism from the world. Even after so many years of the 9/11 attacks, terrorism is still prevalent in many parts of the world. Legal proceedings are the only way to obtain justice in this world. However, the killing of al-Zawahiri may provide justice to the victims of the September 11 attacks. Many other criminals who harmed innocent people are yet to get punishment, which is a blow to the word “justice”. International countries need to come together to combat terrorism. They need to block funding for terrorism activities.
