Tunisia successfully dismantles militant cell linked to ISIS in Tataouine

Tunisia’s National Guard’s Anti – Terrorism Department units said that they were able to uncover a terror cell called “Al Muwahhidun”. The cell has been linked to extremist group that earlier had pledged its loyalty to ISIS. The Interior Ministry or National Guard of Tunisia have not revealed of how the cell was detected or how many people were involved in the terror cell that has been linked to the ISIS.

Tunisia has been struggling to stem the ISIS growth in its borders. And this has been since President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was ousted in 2011 uprising of Tunisia. Since then there has been a surge in radical Islam in the country. Earlier this year, an attack planned by a woman from Syria was thwarted by Tunisian police. The woman had received training with terrorist groups and was targeting multiple tourist areas in Tunisia.
This is just one example of how a terrorist attack was foiled by Tunisian security forces. There have been multiple such success stories of thwarted terrorist attacks in Tunisia by its security forces. According to Western diplomats Tunisia is increasingly becoming efficient at responding to extremist terror plots and diffusing the situation. Furthermore, Tunisian army has been battling out the armed extremist groups in Tunisia’s central mountains since 2012. These groups include fighters from Jund al-Khalifa, or “Soldiers of the Caliphate”, linked to the ISIS group and jihadists from Okba Ibn Nafaa.
