LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said, “We’ve relocated patients out of the danger zone.” Hamilton stated that there was no proof that the man knew his victims.

The man waited in a hospital room for approximately four hours while SWAT team members attempted unsuccessfully to communicate with him before being apprehended, according to police. His name was not revealed right away, but Hamilton said he had a long criminal history, including two arrests for violence on a police officer and resisting arrest last year.

Benjamin Roman, an ultrasound technician, told KNBC-TV that he saw the man, who had a dog with him and appeared to be on drugs because he was nervous and sweating profusely, before the stabbing.

Roman said he witnessed a doctor and a nurse who had been stabbed after the hospital issued a “internal triage” emergency. He commented, “The doctor appeared to be in pain.” There was a lot of blood, and it appeared that he had gotten her abdomen.

The attack comes only two days after a shooter opened fire on a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, killing four people before turning the pistol on himself. Authorities claimed the shooter entered a building on the Saint Francis Hospital campus with little difficulty, just hours after purchasing an AR-style rifle.

At a medical office, the man murdered his surgeon and three other people. He blamed his doctor for his ongoing agony following a recent back surgery.
