Iranian armed forces unveil new details of attack on base with US military in Iraq
The Iranian armed forces will soon announce new details of the January 8 rocket attack on the Iraqi base of Ain al-Assad, where American troops were located. This was stated on Friday by the commander of the Aerospace Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces), General Amir Ali Hajizadeh.
“Much remains unsaid. We want to hold a meeting at which we will tell the people of our country more about this attack,” he said.
Hajizadeh added that “during the attack on Ain al-Assad, the Americans received a small slap in the face of the electronic confrontation from the Iranians.” He did not give details.
The situation in the Middle East sharply worsened after a US missile strike in the Baghdad airport area on the night of January 3, as a result of which General Kassem Suleimani, the commander of the Al-Quds special forces unit, died. In response, on the night of January 8, Iran launched a missile attack on two objects in Iraq that the US military used: Ain al-Assad base and Erbil airport.
