Israel’s Defence And Justice Ministers Agree To Merge Parties For Elections
Israel–Israel’s defence and justice ministers have agreed to merge their political parties ahead of the country’s fifth elections in four years in November after the government led by prime minister Naftali Bennett collapsed last month.
The leaders of the two parties Gideon Saar and Benny Gantz announced the decision on Sunday. With this move, Gantz could become the head of one of the biggest groups in the 120-seat parliament.
Reportedly, both leaders said that the two parties were joining forces to provide Israeli voters with a strong centrist option to help end Israel’s ongoing political crisis. Gantz said, “Today, we are laying the foundation of the next government.” Saar said, “Gantz was best suited to lead as prime minister.”
It was the first shift in Israel’s political landscape since the Israeli lawmakers voted to dissolve parliament on June 30, paving the way for Israel to hold its fifth election in four years.
