France, Morocco Strengthen Judicial Cooperation to Combat Cross-Border Crime

The French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin visited Morocco on Sunday to discuss ways to fight crime together by blocking drug trafficking money and curbing terrorism activities.

During his day-long stay in Morocco Darmanin commended the strong judicial connections but discussed needed changes. Our police force successfully intercepts many illegal activities but they only take away small amounts of seized items on both shores of the Mediterranean. He explained his need to fix this situation to 2M Moroccan TV station during an interview. The minister commended Morocco for its leading role in stopping threats and exchanging valuable security details.

The delegation meets with top Moroccan justice ministers Abdellatif Ouahbi and El-Hassan Daki who serve as key advisers to the King’s Prosecutor General. The talks will center on fighting terrorism and organized crime with help from the French Agency for Managing and Recovering Seized and Confiscated Assets. The diplomatic meetings happened after joint operations with Morocco produced results such as seizing Islamic State cells and capturing French drug traffickers. The country visit happens as bilateral ties strengthen between France and Morocco especially after Morocco secured official French support for its Sahara region control.
