Israel Targets Gaza With Multiple Air Strikes Following Rocket Fire

Israel– Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip on Saturday, following rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave targeting southern Israel. Israeli warplanes targeted sites in the centre of Gaza and Malaka. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli drones also targeted locations near Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, destroying the nearby homes. Israeli aircraft carried out a series of airstrikes on four military sites for the Hamas group that rules Gaza.

The conflict is rising tension at the Gaza-Israel border. The Israeli military said they retaliated in response to the rocket attack by Palestine. The Israeli military said that Palestinians targeted the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. Reportedly, a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning. The Iron Dome missile-defence system intercepted the rocket, which activated warning sirens in the city.

Jenin raid

On Friday, Israeli forces killed three armed Palestinians during an operation by the army in Jenin in the occupied West Bank. Reportedly, this incident triggered a rocket attack from Gaza. Around 8 Palestinian militants were also wounded during the raid.

In February, another raid in Nablus by the army left three people killed. Palestinians claimed that was a sign of growing Israeli aggression.

Israeli–Palestinian conflict

The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is one of the most enduring conflicts in the world. Since the beginning of January 2022, a large number of deaths, injuries, and arrests of Palestinians have been reported.

In 2021, Israel’s offensive on Palestine claimed the lives of around 248 Palestinians in Gaza. Israel carried out a number of air raids in the central Gaza Strip in 2021. Palestinians in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank said that they suffered a lot because of Israeli actions and restrictions. Tensions are often high between Israel and Palestinians living in East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank because of the conflict.
