“It will be a big mistake if the U.S. tries to reimposes sanctions,” says, Iran’s UN envoy Majid Ravanchi
On Wednesday, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that the United States is hopeful the whole world will comprehend the requirement to extend the UN arms ban on Iran. Washington is ready to converse with Tehran at the right time. In response, Iran’s U.N. envoy Majid Ravanchi warned it would be a very very big mistake if the US attempts to re-impose UN sanctions.
Ravanchi reacted following US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s threatened to re-impose U.N. sanctions on Iran if the Security Council doesn’t allow a resolution that would extend the arms prohibition, as it’s soon going to lapse in October. Lifting the arms embargo on Tehran is a part of the U.N. 2015 Security Council resolution signing the atomic deal. If U.N.re-imposes bans, it will end the 2015 atomic deal amid Iran and significant powers and free Tehran from all its duties. If that occurs, Iran won’t be under pressure concerning what strategy it should practice,” he told columnists.
Pompeo told reporters, that he is hopeful that the entire world will acknowledge the idea that this arms ban should be extended. However, several countries comprehend this should not lapse and there will be talks about how to extend the embargo. Hoping that the UN Security Council, notwithstanding the current complaint from Russia and China, would extend the ban, he added.
As per Al Arabiya News, on Monday, the foreign ministry representative Abbas Mousavi warned that if the UN Security Council re-imposes arms ban on Iran, it would be like crossing a “red line” and illegal, he included.
