U.S. – China Miff : U.S. Plans to Book China of Trying to Hack Vaccine Data
Amidst the U.S. allegations against China related to the Coronavirus spread, former is planning to accuse China by issuing a warning of latter trying to hack the vaccine data from American researchers in an attempt to crash its efforts of developing Coronavirus vaccine.
Reports from Washington state that the F.B.I. and Department of Homeland Security are releasing a warning that is accusing the most skilled Chinese hackers for attempting to steal the American research regarding vaccine data. This Cyber attack is being viewed as an extension of the efforts related to cyber theft and many nations taking advantage of the global pandemic situation.
This warning came soon after Israeli officials accused Iran of trying to pressurize crippling of the water supply to Israeli households that are under lockdown due to COVID-19. Although, the Israel government has not offered any evidence against this claim.
Many countries have already deployed their military and intelligence hackers to procure whatever information they can from other nation’s database. Even countries like South Korea, which is an American ally, and countries with not so strong cyber capabilities like Vietnam are being reported by security firms to have redirected their expert hackers towards gathering data related to virus from other nations.
Washington officials stated that a draft being prepared of the warning to China states that it is “seeking valuable intellectual property and public health data through illicit means related to vaccines, treatments and testing.”
The officials stated that warning is mainly focusing on cyber theft and role of “nontraditional actors”, which is a euphemism being used by Trump administration for students who are being used to carry out the hacking of American database from various academic as well as private laboratories carrying out research for vaccine production against the Coronavirus. This action against China is being said to be a part of America’s United States Cyber Command and the National Security Agency, the officials stated. President Donald Trump had passed regulations two years back according to which U.S. has legal authority to counterattack the Chinese system as well as of other nations as a proportional retaliation. The officials further stated that this warning will be publicized in coming days.
